Press Release Summary: URJA mobilizes units across Delhi to file objections with DERC office
Press Release Body: New Delhi, India: Following the discussions between United RWAs Joint Action (URJA) zonal representatives last week, it has been decided to prepare for blanket opposition to the Multi Year Tariff (MYT) proposal mooted by the Delhi Electric Regulatory commission(DERC)
Consequently, URJA has asked RWAs across the city to file their objections to the proposal with the DERC by the 20th December, the new last date for submission of objections after a five-day extension granted by the DERC.
\"There is simply no question of any agreement by any consumer in Delhi to this ridiculous proposal by the DERC,\" said Ashok Prabhakar of Malviya Nagar RWA federation.
RWAs have made repeated requests to the Government and the DERC for an independent audit of the performance of the DISCOMS and their financials of their last five-year term.
\"We have written to the URJA network of over 750 RWAs across Delhi and given them points on which to oppose this proposal,\" said Varinder Arora of People\'s Action . The objections are many, mainly:
§ That DISCOMS accounts need to be investigated by an independent audit § DISCOMS have made huge profits, tariffs need to come down by at least 25% § In the absence of Open Access (without competition) any increase of tariff will be a monopolistic advantage to the financial benefit of DISCOMS § Privatisation promised better service, lower tariffs and no power cuts - on each count DISCOMS have failed and they need to be penalized, not rewarded. § Discoms, specifically BSES, have been accused by an inordinately high number of consumers for indulging in corrupt practices - their license needs to be revoked § The entire privatization process was corruptive and suspicious - without a CBI enquiry it has no sanctity in public domain.
Sanjay Kaul, President of People\'s Action said, \"Any way we look at it, the MYT proposal is a frightening example of how business cartels have acquired total control of government, policy and regulator all in one go.\"
\"Above all, it is the performance of the DERC that has now come under question. How can we allow a regulator in who we have no confidence anymore to fix another lucrative deal for these private companies\", added Kaul.
